Minds Eye...A History
In 1999, a small group of people came together in an effort to change the face of Kansas City theater. They attracted a diverse group of actors and patrons who shared one common vision, to produce works that not only entertain, but provoke thought and generate discussion.
Minds Eye Theatre’s first production, The Miracle Worker, was the beginning of a long-standing tradition of showcasing the strength of the human spirit. Productions such as Stop Kiss, A Clockwork Orange, Sordid Lives and Caligula continued to garner much discussion and critical acclaim while at the same time promoting the original vision of the Minds Eye board of directors.
Minds Eye Theatre also showed its irreverent side with productions of Betty’s Summer Vacation and The Rocky Horror Show, the latter becoming one of the most successful productions attempted by a non-professional theater in Kansas City.
In 2005, Minds Eye Theatre went back to its “roots” by producing small scale shows within the traditions established by the groups founding members; Monday After the Miracle, the sequel to The Miracle Worker, The Why and Sad Hotel received critical acclaim and moved Minds Eye Theatre into the spotlight while maintaining its original vision.
Minds Eye Theatre, led by Artistic Director Sara Crow and President Craig Aikman, will continue to offer quality to Kansas City audiences. Now, more than ever, it is committed to promoting the arts and providing an artistic outlet for writers, directors and actors throughout the area, pushing Kansas City Theater out of the ordinary.
